The Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner is a constituted body corporate established under Sub-section(3) of Section 1 of the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Act, 2010. The University came into existence on 18th day of May, 2010. The Headquarter of the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is located at Bikaner.
The Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner has been established for the purpose of development of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in the state of Rajasthan in specific and in the country in general by ensuring proper and systematic instruction, training, research and extension in up to date system of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and its allied sciences. The University is marching ahead to provide technical and scientific support for transforming state animal husbandry from sustainability to improved profitability. Improved production in association with productivity spurts has led the State to be one of the leaders in the country for milk, meat and wool production with the support of scientific and technological interventions and a favorable policy environment.
The University is located in the heritage and palatial buildings of the erstwhile Ganga Avenue housing the College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bikaner (Since 1954) and its precincts, spreading over 200 acres of land. The Bijey Bhavan Palace, a magnificent red sandstone edifice designed by well-known architect Sir Swinton Jacob, was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh (1881-1942) as the residence of his son Prince Bijey Singh in 1927. Two other buildings, the State Museum is known as Sadul Sadan and State Library was also built contemporarily. These magnificent buildings are the example of pure Rajput martial architecture. They have several grand halls lounges, cupolas and pavilions. The exotic palatial buildings have magnificent pillars, richly carved fire mantles, Italian colonnades etc.
