B.D.S. (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is a professional undergraduate degree in dentistry that usually lasts 5 years. The program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical abilities in oral health care. Students learn about anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and dental specialties like orthodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. The curriculum includes significant clinical instruction, throughout which students treat patients under supervision. Graduates are qualified to practice dentistry after getting the relevant licenses. This degree is recognized globally, though certain countries may require additional exams for practice. The M.D.S. (Master of Dental Science) program is a 1-year certificate program intended specifically for aiming dental students. It provides a solid foundation in upper-level human biological sciences, making applicants more competitive for the dental profession school entrance. The curriculum, which consists of 22 total credits, includes videoconferencing, lecture capture, and onsite lectures. Successful completion with a 3.6 GPA provides a reserved position in the Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) program, while a 3.3 GPA guarantees an interview. The program introduces students to dental school culture by allowing them to matriculate with first-year dental students, providing a path for those who are not initially acknowledged to U.S. approved dental schools.
