Established in 1916 under the vision of His Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar and Diwan Sir M. Vishweswaraiah, the University of Mysore has been a pioneer in education. The Government College of Mandya, founded in 1948, evolved to offer degree courses in 1963, aiming to provide the rural masses with higher education. Achieving UGC's 2F and 12B status in 1992, it gained autonomy in 2005–06 and obtained 'A' grade NAAC accreditation in 2016. Recently designated as Mandya Unitary University, it appointed Dr. M.S.
